Jennifer Michael has 15 years of experience working in the communications field, primarily as a writer, editor and communications director. For the last 10 years she has specialized in nonprofit communications, and has worked on association magazines, newsletters, annual reports, funding appeals, media outreach, web content, ghost writing and branding strategy.

Ms. Michael began her career as a reporter for Patuxent Publishing Company, a community newspaper chain in Maryland. She moved on to become Managing Editor at the Child Welfare League of America, where she oversaw the editorial production of Children’s Voice, CWLA’s flagship magazine, and copy edited the Child Welfare journal, Residential Group Care Quarterly, and several e-newsletters.

As the current Communications Director for the Board of Child Care, a provider of residential group care and community-based services for children and families in Maryland, DC and West Virginia, Ms. Michael directs the agency’s overall communications strategy. This includes the production of print and online marketing materials, and the handling of all advertising and media relations.

Ms. Michael also maintains an active freelance writing/editing business, having most recently edited the second edition of What Works in Child Welfare, published by CWLA, and the National Building Bridges Initiative’s Cultural & Linguistic Competence: Guidelines for Residential Programs.

Ms. Michael is the recipient of a 2007 Communicator Award for feature article writing, as well as news writing awards from the Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association, Suburban Newspapers of American, and the Maryland State Teachers Association. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and the International Association of Business Communicators.

Ms. Michael has a BA in English from McDaniel College and an MA in Publications Design from the University of Baltimore.
